¡°National Pension Selected as the Best Public Fund in Asia Pacific¡± - The Asian Investor awarded the Korean National Pension as both the ¡°Best Public Pension Fund in Asia Pacific¡± and the ¡°Best Institutional Investor in the Korean Market¡±- ¡à The National Pension Service (NPS), chaired by Choi Kwang, announced that it was selected as the Best Public Pension Fund in Asia Pacific* and the Best Institutional Investor in the Korean Market** by the Asian Investor Magazine last December 3. * One of the nine awards (central bank, corporate pension fund, charity fund, insurance company, public pension fund, sovereign wealth fund, governance, innovation and investment capability) given to organizations selected from among fourteen countries in the Asia-Pacific region ** Awarded to organizations selected from each of the six markets/countries (i.e., Thailiand, Australia/New Zealand, China, Hong Kong/Taiwan, Japan and Korea) ¡Ø Awarding ceremony held at the Westin Hotel, Singapore ¡à The Asian Investor lauded the NPS and said that its selection was attributable to ¡°the great effort made in portfolio diversification and overseas investment expansion and its excellent performance in the management of public pension funds as a major institutional investor not only domestically but also in Asia and the global arena.¡± ¡à The NPS has been gradually diversifying its investments, including in the global markets, to generate stable profits in the mid-to-long run and diversify risks. ¡Û Between 1988 and September 2014, its cumulative return recorded 6.09%, or an amount of 206 trillion won (36.5% of 565 trillion won as the total fund). Recently, it has stably managed its overseas investments, which recorded 94.6 trillion won (comprised of 53.6 trillion won in overseas equity, 19.1 trillion won in overseas fixed income and 21.8 trillion won in alternative overseas products) at the end of September 2014.
¡à Its Chairman, Mr. Choi, said that his organization has been ¡°internationally recognized for its efforts in overseas portfolio diversification and management infrastructure innovation, which are aimed at stable investment and continuous generation of profits amid the global uncertainties and volatility.¡± He added that ¡°the NPS will further boost its fund management capability and, hopefully, be the world¡¯s best public fund that is also a reliable pension operator for its public.¡± ¡Ø About the Asian Investor Magazine Asian Investor is a sister company of the Haymarket Publishing, one of the largest media companies in the United Kingdom.
